Pickleball

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, table tennis (ping pong), and badminton.  It is played on a smaller court with a shorter net and a solid paddle. Players hit a lightweight plastic ball with holes (like a Wiffle ball) over the net. There are specific rules like the two-bounce rule and a no-volley zone (the "kitchen") near the net making it unique and accessible to people of all ages and skill sets. Pickleball is known for being social, affordable, and is the fastest-growing sport in the United States.

In 2019, Harrisburg Township Park Distrct made the decision to convert a basketball court into two pickleball courts.  The results were great to see with people of all ages trying out this new opportunity.  By 2023, there became a need for additional pickleball courts and another basketball court was removed to install two more pickleball courts.  Lighting was also added to the facility in 2023 to allow for extended availity in the evenings and accommodate the growing number of people utilizing the facility.  Two practice walls have been installed and allow for solo warm-up or practice shot opportunities.  The park loves seeing the different ages and skill sets utilizing the pickleball facility.
